Since the Partnership for Disaster Response was established three years ago, corporate giving during major domestic and international disasters has continued to increase in scale and efficiency. This year, the private sector responded with overwhelming generosity to the disasters that affected Myanmar and China in May, and the Midwest flooding in June. In an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal in June, Business Roundtable CEOs Jeffrey Immelt, General Electric, and Anne Mulcahy, Xerox, examined the growing role the private sector plays in contributing to disaster response. more >>

Recent News
Disaster Contributions Updates

Business Roundtable companies have donated more than $70.5 million in to recent disasters in the midwestern United States, China and Myanmar.

Midwest Floods
Severe storms in the Midwest have caused flooding across four states--Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska and Wisconsin--forcing approximately 36,000 people to evacuate their homes. We are maintaining close contact with the American Red Cross to monitor the most urgent on-the-ground needs. The ARC Disaster Operations Center has requested fuel cards (credit cards for gasoline) in preferred denominations of $100. If your company can contribute fuel cards, please contact Joanna Evans at the ARC. To date, Business Roundtable member companies have donated more than $1.1 million to disaster relief efforts in the Midwest.

China Earthquake
A powerful earthquake of 7.9 magnitude hit Sichuan Province in Western China on May 12. The government of China has formally requested international assistance, and has authorized the Red Cross Society of China to accept donations.
Business Roundtable companies have mobilized quickly to contribute to the devastating earthquake through cash, in-kind and employee matching contributions totaling more than $61.9 million.

Myanmar Cyclone
The political situation in Myanmar has continued to present obstacles to international aid reaching the worst-hit regions. The international community continues to urge the junta to ease restrictions and allow much-needed aid to flow into the country. Business Roundtable companies have responded with more than $7.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions.
